ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate)

ESR measures how quickly red blood cells settle at the bottom of a test tube. A faster rate may indicate inflammation in the body. It is a non-specific test used alongside other tests.

Who Should Take This Test?

Often used to detect or monitor inflammation from conditions like infections, autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus), or certain cancers.

How It Works

A blood sample is placed in a tall, thin tube and left for one hour. The rate at which red blood cells settle is measured in millimeters per hour.
