Who Should Take This Test?

Ordered when a urinary tract infection (UTI) is suspected based on symptoms like painful urination, frequent urge to urinate, or cloudy/foul-smelling urine. It identifies the specific bacteria and which antibiotics will work best.

How It Works

You provide a clean-catch midstream urine sample. The lab places the sample in a special dish that allows bacteria to grow. After 1-2 days, the lab identifies the bacteria and tests different antibiotics against it.

Preparation

No special preparation needed. Collect a clean-catch midstream urine sample in a sterile container as instructed by your provider.

How Often?

When UTI symptoms occur or after treatment to confirm infection cleared
